To make an appointment
with a Counsellor

What do we do?
At Orewa College we have two counsellors and one psychologist serving our school community. Our counsellors have Post Graduate qualifications in Counselling and are registered with the New Zealand Association for Counsellors, whilst Whaea Kate holds Post Graduate qualifications in Psychology and registration with the New Zealand Psychologists Board. We abide by the Code of Ethics of our respective associations, which means that confidentiality is maintained unless there is an imminent risk to safety. We are all qualified and registered teachers, with a number of years’ experience between us. We are passionate about maintaining our students' right for free and confidential counselling and guidance. We aim to work collaboratively within our strong pastoral team to support the students as best we can when and where appropriate. We work towards reducing barriers to a student’s academic progress, as well as improving a student’s emotional wellbeing.
Common issues we are able to support students and families with include:

·  Lack of motivation

·  Drugs and alcohol

·  Friendships

·  Stress

·  Loss and grief

·  Relationships

·  Inability to concentrate

·  Behavioural issues

·  Sexuality

·  Low self esteem

·  Depression

·  Trauma

·  Bullying and harassment

·  Anxiety

·  Abuse

We are able to work alongside families towards supporting our students. We work closely with external agencies, to ensure families and students are able to access the resources available within our community.

Making an Appointment

We work hard to make our service as accessible as possible, so there are a number of ways for students to make an appointment. There is an appointment box outside the counselling offices, where students can fill out the form and post in the secure box which is checked by the counsellors regularly. Students can email either of the counsellors by simply clicking on one of the counsellors above. Finally, you can click the big green button at the top of the screen to access the new appointment system.

If you have a general enquiry then please feel free to email us at guidance@oc.school.nz
Youth Workers
We also have the fantastic addition of 4 Part-Time Youth Workers that bring an extra pastoral resource to support our students. They offer one to one mentoring, targeted group work around such topics as leadership and positive peer relationships. This is in addition to a positive and energetic presence for our students at intervals and lunch times and school events.
Introducing Zoe, Christa, Matt and Tim.

You can contact the youth workers at youthworkers@oc.school.nz or to make a referral contact guidance@oc.school.nz.
